Performa 410

Also known as the LC II – A Mac for the masses.

The LC II was a modified version of the earlier LC. Running a 68030 32-bit CPU on a 16-bit data bus and hard limited to 10 MB RAM maximum, with virtual memory support, it’s slower than the older Mac IIx, despite having the same processor.

A drop-off from a client, likely from a local school. Nothing particularly special about this machine.

Physical Condition »

  • Vitals: System 7.5.5, 8MB RAM, BlueSCSI w/2GB OS Partition
  • Condition: Good, some yellowing.
    • 5 December 2015: Completed capacitor repair and floppy reconditioning. Machine works properly.
    • 12 October 2015: system seems to work fine. Noticed electrolytic capacitors leaking on board. Machine out of service until capacitors can be replaced.
    • 30 November 2014: Cleaned floppy, replaced PRAM Battery. SCSI HDD took about an hour to start responding. Ran Disk First Aid – passed.
  • Other: Original ADB cable is missing. Power cable not present. None of the associated packaging is present. Manuals are not present.

At this point, the board was cleaned extensively using cotton swabs and isopropanol.

At this point, I lost one of the capacitors somewhere in the carpet, and discovered I ordered the wrong voltage of another. Ordered new parts and waited a week.
